NANT Open meetings at Waldringfield & Martlesham Heath

NANT Open Meetings
We had 2 very successful open meetings, Waldringfield on the 10th (which was covered by the press) and Martlesham Heath on the 12th of January.  Both were well attended with a total of  around 250 supporters braving the cold and wet evenings.  We gave an update of the campaign so far, the publicity that we have attracted and the increased public awareness achieved, culminating in delivering the petition of 3898 signatures of supporters who oppose the allocation of 2000 houses to the BT site at Martlesham. We reported that we are now being advised by a firm of Planning Consultants as well as a firm of Environment and Public Law solicitors  who specialise in acting on behalf of community groups. These specialists are helping us with our response to the LDF as well as preparing the case should we need to go to judicial review. (Something we must be prepared for even though we would hope to avoid) We highlighted issues that we feel still remain within the revised LDF (these can be found in the section above) We gave a brief statement of our finances.  We were delighted to report that we had reached our original target  but still need to raise more to reach our ultimate goal.  We reminded donors that any unused funds would be returned at the end of the campaign. Questions and answers followed and it was clear that everyone was totally committed to continue with the battle. The matter of the SCDC “handout” which they had promised would be delivered to every household and business in the district was raised – on a show of hands, 2 of the 250 people had actually received it.
