Subject: Suffolk Coastal District Council – planning application 09/0555 for 2000 new homes and other mixed development
Date: Tue, 7 Sep 2010 01:28:27 +0000

Dear Sir,

I am writing to request that you call-in the above planning application - made by BT, for 2000 new homes on the Greenfield site, south and east of BT’s current site at Adastral Park in Ipswich – so that it can be determined by an individual Planning Inspector.

Suffolk Coastal District Council has decided to adopt the LDF as interim planning policy, and are intending to put this application before the Development Control Committee in the very near future, despite the Coalition Government’s strategy for local housing being clearly opposed to this type of vast development where it is not needed.

If the application is approved, it will mean the destruction of a Greenfield site, which in itself violates several planning policies. The wildlife of the Deben Estuary and 7 County Wildlife sites will be overwhelmed by the 4,800 new residents living within a mile of their natural habitats. The surrounding villages will lose their rural identities and become urban suburbs. The local roads, already congested, will have 2,400 more car movements on them per day, which BT propose can be off-set by improving junctions.

There are viable alternatives to this application, which are being steadfastly ignored by the District Council. Residents of the surrounding areas would like to see affordable housing built where it is needed to sustain village life - as opposed to see it lost.

Also, for your information -

Within the last 4 years an Independent Inspector rejected an applicant’s appeal against the Council’s rejection of a planning application for 120 log cabins on an adjacent site. This rejection was on the grounds of the adverse affect on the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and protected sites. BT had also objected strongly to the cabins being built.

Local Conservative Councillor Sherrie Green has been sacked following an email to colleagues asking them to look again at the LDF following the election of the new coalition Government.

I look forward to your response.

Yours Sincerely

Rebecca Patten
