Pledge Form for Martlesham Heath residents

NO ADASTRAL NEW TOWN ON THE HEATH

You will no doubt be aware of and perhaps concerned about the huge development being applied for by BT on Martlesham and Waldringfield Heaths.

Over 2,000 thousand houses, in fact a new town, squashed onto the last remaining piece of heath land between the A12 and the River Deben including 3/6 story buildings, a hotel and  presumably shops and fast food outlets etc. Thus bringing Ipswich and its urban sprawl virtually right to the banks of the river.

A group has been formed to take action to resist this development –“ No Adastral New Town”, or

NANT for short. More information of our work, as well as the proposed development, can be found by visiting our website, www.noadastralnewtown.com

Members of NANT, along with other local bodies, have laboured long and hard to persuade the SCDC to review their position and respond positively to the views of the local communities.  Despite the recent change of government, SCDC appear to be determined to create a planning framework that would accommodate the BT proposal.

We have now decided that the only way in which we are going to progress any further is to bring in specialist expertise.  There is, of course, a cost attached to this which has so far been met by members of the steering group.  We have already briefed a planning consultant who is putting our case to the Secretary of State.  In addition, we have also talked to specialist solicitors.  To go further, means that we are going to have to raise money from our supporters.  Our minimum initial target is £50,000 and we feel that there are enough very determined people to raise this.

We would be very grateful if you could let us know if you are willing and able to help by making a pledge on the attached form.  This is primarily for specialist legal and planning advice and also publicity. Needless to say, the members of NANT are giving their time and expertise on an entirely voluntary basis. The pledges will only be called in when it becomes necessary, which could be quite soon and, in this event, more formal documents will be supplied.  At present we are trying to get some idea of how much money we might be able to raise.

We hope that you will be able to spare at least £50 but any amount up to £500 would be very helpful.  It might be useful to know that if your house is in, say, band E for Council Tax, a donation of £300 represents only ¼ of 1% of the rateable value. Put in that context it could be very good value for money by helping to protect the price of your home.

Any funds not used will, of course, be returned in proportion to the donation.

Thank you for reading this. There is some urgency as the District Council are progressing the application as fast as they can so we very much look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.
